Essential oils of oranges

Orange essential oil is cold pressed from the fruit’s peel. Essential oils from orange fruits are generally blended with terpeneless oils or synthetic aroma substances.

The essential oils arise in glands inside the peel of the oranges. Limonene is formed by cyclization of geranyl diphosphate. It is most frequent monoterpenoid made by plants.

Oranges mainly used as raw materials of flavors are classified into three groups:
*Sweet oranges
*Sour oranges
*Mandarin

Sweet orange oil from sweet oranges is by far the most frequent essential oil manufactured while bitter orange oil from bitter oranges is a typical niche product.

Orange flavors are required to have a refreshing and juicy character. It is preferable that orange flavors have a strong top note produced by aldehydes with a light aroma.

For sweet orange oil, the limonene content is always more than 90% whatever the cultivar. The main fields of application of sweet orange fragrance are the food and beverage industry and for perfume, soap and house hold products.

Mandarin essential oil expressed form the peel is employed commercially in flavoring a number of food products.

Mandarin essential oil paste is standard flavoring for carbonated beverages.

Orange essential oil is well known as an anti-depressant than can relax anyone without the mind-altering properties. When the person becomes anxious or nervous orange essential oil can bring the person back to a more focused mood.
